The Eyes: they couldn't tear themselves away from the sight.
The Words: they had a flow of their own with a rhythm.
The Smile: it made a bright and sunny day in the night.
The Nerves: it's time to make a move. It's now or never.
The "In": oh, is the answer yes or no?
The Touch: it was a shock to the system indeed
The Kiss: so soft and sweet, it lasted a while
The Night: it was electric, and the passion was wild
The Day: they couldn't get each other out of their minds
The Like: it's always good to be friends before lovers
The Love: you couldn't take the love away.....
(solo)
The Truth: oh was it really much too good to be true
The Tears: the tears of joy from a love like no other
The Head: it's trying to tell you that something was wrong
The Mind: it's trying to turn the fantasy into the real
The Heart: it's beating quickly as it senses the end
The End: it only really was a dream
This song literally came to me in a dream......
It was November 2013, on Black Friday. I was asleep, and this song started playing in my head. I remembered the melody, the instrument it was played on, the key it was played in, and even the tempo. When I woke up, I quickly turned on my computer, loaded up Samplitude, and began recording a rough cut of the song, hurrying like mad, before I forgot it. I dream original music all the time, even now in 2022, as I write this. Some of my best musical ideas were lost, the moment I woke up, but not this one! I made damn sure I remembered it!
There are two versions of this song: the vocal version, as posted above, and the instrumental version, which was the version I wrote first:
The original demo I wrote and recorded in Samplitude, unfortunately was lost when my hard drive got fried due to a spike in the power grid I lived in. The versions included on YouTube, and in this blog posting, were recorded a year later, in 2014, in Logic Pro X.
The song was originally a melodic guitar instrumental, in the vein of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. When I started working on the Logic Pro X version, I added some lyrics to it. When I recorded the vocals, I admit I was channeling "Trial By Fire"-era Steve Perry at the time. You can probably hear it in my delivery, and even in the vocal effects. I decided to throw in a reverse reverb, which is also present in Steve Perry's vocals on Journey's "Trial By Fire" from 1996.
This song was on iTunes and Spotify, but I don't think it's available anymore. YouTube is the only place you can hear this version, now.
Speaking of Journey and Steve Perry, check out one of my earlier covers of Journey's "City of Angels" which you can visit here:
